How are you performing research on Citizen Science, taking part in Citizen Science activities and/or supporting Citizen Science?:
My research looks at environmental and health impacts of shale gas, and a key theme of my research is public engagement and citizen science projects. I recently coauthored a book chapter with my supervisor Karen Makuch on the benefits of engaging children in environmental citizen science projects. I am currently conducting research on the benefits of engaging communities of all ages in citizen science projects with a focus on the role of citizen science in promoting environmental monitoring and stewardship. More specifically, I am researching how citizen science projects can facilitate communication and increase engagement of local communities adjacent to shale gas extraction sites, as well as how citizen science mechanisms can be used to educate and empower local communities.
