The Insight Centre for Data Analytics is one of Europe’s largest data analytics research organisations, with 400+ researchers, more than 80 industry partners and over €100 million of funding. Insight has a long track record of data analytics research. At Insight we work for collaboration on a large scale, involving all the stakeholders of the data flow and looking after public engagement and industries around the use and benefits of data in our society. Insight work for enabling a data driven society.
How are you performing research on Citizen Science, taking part in Citizen Science activities and/or supporting Citizen Science?: 
We organise hackathons and coding clubs, competitions and safety talks. We have events for the older members of the community and we even run the Irish Computer and Communications Museum. We run research and communicate our achievements and results using the technology tools and the prepare demonstrators in the form of living labs for people to understand not only the fun side of the science but also the scientific elements and thus we bring the science close to people. We have a series of regional and national initiatives and projects to reach people and engage with them, the latest example is the OASC Ireland that focuses on Smart Cities and the Open Data aspects and that bring city officers and citizens in general to learn about the Open Source Solutions that derivate from the technology and the benefits on using technology in every people’s daily activities. We also run apps development for students and coding clubs that not only address the children but their parents, as just two examples of the various EPE activities.

Brief description of project: 
Cities requires innovative solutions on how to deal with traffic conditions, monitor the air quality and control the Noise Pollution, three different problems that are correlated and that by solving them individually the impact in the society is minimised, the economic factor is increasing every day (involving a tremendous hit for the city budget) and the real problems like citizens mobility, life quality, pubic safety may not be resolved timely according to increasing citizens’ demands. Citizens Science Smart City: IoT-Enabled look at engaging with the people and promote citizens participation and innovating technologies using Air Quality and Noise Monitoring, a project to ensure the design, the development, testing and piloting of a solution incorporates citizens opinion and participation for monitoring collectively noise levels and using data analytics methods reduce the emissions (improving air quality) and the reduction of noise or vibration which might give reasonable cause for annoyance, for citizens where appropriate. The main objective of the project is to ensure that the design, testing and piloting of an innovative solution is done by the inhabitants of the cities, by this we are using Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies for minimising the environmental impact pollution produced by cars, into the surrounding environment, maintaining air quality and Noise Levels to a satisfactory standards by regulating a smart traffic system IoT-enabled and monitoring the atmospheric emissions in accordance with EU directives on air quality and noise and by promoting and supporting initiatives to reduce air pollution, additionally increasing the use of public transport, developing urban woodland, encouraging tree planting and conserving green open spaces for citizens better quality of life.
